At the recent conference I went to, Janet Fox gave a great workshop on visualizations to help us go deeper with our stories. I missed the intro (I was in my critique), but she talked about making scrapbooks for our characters, creating “mood boards,” book trailers, and pinterest boards.
Here’s the scrap board I made:
I love playing with my stories. It helps me work out plot problems and explore motivation and emotion. One of my favorite things to do is to draw scenes from my stories. I can think about the intricacies and emotions of the scene while I’m drawing lines and faces and postures. I also love to make up songs for my stories. I express emotion a lot through music, so it’s a great way for me to explore the emotions of my characters.
This month, I’m going to share some of my favorite creative techniques for exploring my story in ways other than writing.
