Dialogue

One of my favorite exercises at a lecture was when we were given five lines of dialogue spoken by two people with no tags whatsoever. We were then given ten minutes to add description between the lines of dialogue. It’s amazing how people came up with completely different scenes. I made the scene between two bank robbers–someone else wrote it about a couple on a date.

All this showed me the importance of including description when characters are talking.
